Astro-Norte

Sociedad Astro-Norte Ingenieros Limitada

Facility Don Esteban

Overview

Astro-Norte was born to cover the needs of the Radio-Astronomy project Cosmic Background Imager (CBI), installed on the Llano de Chajnantor in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile. Our group has already more than 6 years of experience, obtained under very extreme work conditions over 5000 meters of altitude, succesfully operating the CBI, and obtaining very important scientific results.

Under these concepts, Astro-Norte is able to give all different services that can support the operations of radio-astronomy projects that are and will be installed in northern Chile. Our experience allow us to give high quality and confidence to the projects interested in our services.

History

The CBI Project started the observations in late 1999. Given the need to operate the telescope with chilean engineers, in october of 2001 Ricardo Bustos joined the CBI. Then, in the middle of 2002, Cristóbal Achermann started to work for the CBI while Nolberto Oyarce and Rodrigo Reeves joined in January of 2003. But, it is not until april 2005 when the idea to create Astro-Norte was born and is in October 1st, 2005 when Astro-Norte started its operations.

The operations in Chile for the Chajnantor Observatory are carried out by Astro-Norte with the fundamental support of José Cortés, Cristóbal Jara, Lorena Toro and Carlos Verdugo. Astro-Norte also administrates the facility Don Esteban, home of the ACT, ASTE and QUIET projects in San Pedro de Atacama. Javiera Vergara and Marcia Parra are in charge of the management and operations.
